GETTING A GOOD JOB IN NIGERIA
It is quite obvious that there are limited vacancies in the country at the moment. The number of vacancies present right now is not enough to satisfy the number of graduates being churned out every year by the universities and colleges. And the few vacancies available go to the most qualified people, a good reason for getting appropriate qualifications for the job that you want. Also, the experience that is being demanded by the employers of labor is out of the reach of most fresh graduates. Some ask for at least five years experience for a job. With the situation where you have not had a job since you graduated, how on earth are you supposed to get five years experience?
A lot of job seekers in the country are not patient enough to get proper and accurate information on job vacancies. Well, this is understandable due to various constraints. But despite the challenges, you need to get appropriate information about any job vacancy before you dabble into it. If you need good information, you can use either of the following means:
1. Networking: This is a very good means of sourcing for information about a particular company or firm. Ask your friends and family members what they know. You can even go as far as asking employees of the particular company or executives in that same company. Note that a lot of jobs do not get advertised but through referrals.
2. Job Boards: This is another good tool for job search. Job boards are there to alert you especially when a new job offer is just coming up. An example is Ngcareers.com.
3. Internet: The internet is the ultimate source of information. Some websites exist solely for the purpose of connecting job seekers with employers of labor. An example is Careers Nigeria.
After getting the necessary information, get a good resume and cover letter. With this, you can be sure of getting called for an interview. As mentioned earlier, if you want to get experience in a particular field, you do not need to wait till you are employed. Go out and take on volunteer jobs. Most volunteer jobs would not pay you, but you are sure that you would get the needed experience.
Lastly, once you are called up for an interview, prepare well for it physically and psychologically. Get everything you need and get to the venue on time.JOBS IN NIGERIA
