This is the time of year when young adults are graduating from college and looking for jobs. Not only do you need a good resume you need to write a great cover letter. The cover letter is the first thing a prospective employer looks at.

Your letter should include all your demographic data including address and telephone number. A great cover letter describes why you want to work for that company and how you would be a good asset to their team.

Your letter should also briefly describe your educational and work history. The bulk of that information goes on your resume. It should describe what kind of person you are such as a diligent hard worker for example.

You cannot express enough in the letter why you want to work for their company, how you have researched its history and how you would make a good employee for them. Indicate you have good references on your attached resume.

Let them know of any volunteer work or extracurricular activity you have done. Mention any special interests that you may have, too. This can give them a better "picture" of who you are.

In the letter you could let them know when you would be ready to start a position and of course what position you are interested. Briefly describe your educational and work history because all that information is on your resume. Close your letter by thanking them for their time and consideration.
