Having an Interivew If You Are Disabled
Although legally they should not ask these questions, it is in your best interest not to upset them by refusing to answer and reminding them that they have fallen foul of the law but convince the interviewers that your disability is not a problem. It is in your best interest to make yourself ready for some of these questions and be willing to sell yourself rather than be shocked or unhappy at the time. This will present your first-rate qualities. Convincing answers and sentences similar to "I am a strong contributor to team work", "I have pride myself and my abilities to be self sufficient", "I certainly don"t regard myself being disabled" or "I can lead a full and broad life. Make sure you do not lie about your disability as you do not want to suffer any trust you have gained with your boss if they then find out. You will usually be on a probation period and would have been given the appointment subject to satisfactory references and you do not want to jeopardise losing your appointment forthwith.If you are physically disabled it will be obvious to your likely employer. The best way to handle your disability is to advertise that you are as self sufficient as you can be, able to fit in and work in the environment and with team members and that you do not need to be treated otherwise.
There are benefits and grants that may be available to any possible employers so as to offer you a working surround suitable to your requirements. Being mindful of these grants and sharing this information with your possible employer could be beneficial, helping them to learn of, if any, costs that could be required. You could be already aware of any particular requirements from your home environment, bedroom furniture, kitchen layout etc.
Being upfront with your disability is a wise move, showing that there is nothing for your possible employers to be concerned over and you have the fundamental skills that they are looking for to slot in to the team. The employer will be searching for the best candidate with the proper skill base and not judged against any disabled candidates.
