After working for a company for three years I was being let go.ч  Not for lack of performance.ч  The business was closing down due to the economic conditions.ч  The owners were good people they just couldn"t keep the doors open any longer.ч  I hadn"t been out on the job market for that long and even then I was fortunate enough to know someone in the company that put in a good word for me.ч  Getting hired there was not difficult.

I had to get back on the job market and with that came in my resume and the cover letter.ч  I used a generic letter I found online.ч  This is what it looked like.

If you notice my title says, how to write a cover letter example of what didn"t work for me.ч  The reason for that is, while using the above letter I didn"t get any results.ч  I looked into different programs and information.ч  Anything I could get my hands on reviews anything.ч  What I found was a wealth of information to improve my cover letter.ч  I was oblivious to what I was sending out there and it didn"t really cross my mind that it was the letter I was putting out there, that was holding me back.ч  If I had known this, I wouldn"t have lost three months thinking it was just my bad luck.

I cant say I was picked up right away, after making the changes, but I have noticed an increase in calls and I"ve had a couple of interviews.ч  I know many out there struggling with lay offs would want to be aware of any deficiencies in what their sending out.ч  Hope this helps.ч  Being out of work is no picnic but neither is job hunting for longer than you have to.
