Pick one font and one size and use it on the entire resume (with the exception of your name, which should be larger). I recommend a 20-font for the name and an 11-font for the body.Lines, Boxes, and Borders - oh my! Lose them all! They just break up the resume. Keep it clean by only underlining headings (Experience, Education, Skills, etc.) and using no other lines.
3. Format Continuity
Make sure your format is the same throughout. It should be easy to read, cleanly structured, and consistent from beginning to end.
4. Paragraphs are for Books, not Resumes
An easy-to-read resume is written more like an outline than an essay. I recommend using bullet points under each job title to list your responsibilities, successes, etc.

A resume should not be written in sentences; therefore you never need a period at the end of a line. Resumes should be lists of skills, successes, etc. - keep it simple.
6. Size Matters
The length of your resume does matter, but it"s no longer mandatory to make it one page, or to only cover the last ten years of your career. Ideally, the resume should be a true reflection of your experience. If you have more experience, be brief with your descriptions. One or two pages are fine, but try not to go more than three.
7. Stretching the Truth
Be very careful when fudging dates, changing titles, altering salaries or even worse, claiming to have a degree or certification you didn"t actually earn. I have heard too many stories of references being done and candidates being caught. If that happens, you lose more than just the job!
8. Spelling
It seems obvious to check your spelling over and over again. But do not rely on spell-check! It can replace a misspelled word with one that is close in spelling but the wrong word all together.
10. Objective/Profile
I don"t recommend including an Objective or Profile at all. When you do, you"re often eliminating other positions that aren"t as you describe. For example, the person reading your resume might have thought of something for you that"s outside the box. You might just love it, but your Objective might make them rethink running it by you.
11. Sending a resume before it"s perfectly professional
